Photo of the Week: Spice Pyramids
Walking through the markets at Aswan you can see many different spices for sale. Often they are heaped into pyramid shaped mounds to more effectively show them off. I was always impressed by how they managed to get them to stand up like that.
Being the trading hub of the ancient world, many of these herbs & spices have been in use in Egypt since ancient times. Some native herbs to Egypt include: cumin, dill, fennel, fenugreek, mint, parsley, thyme, & marjoram. Others were imported from surrounding areas.
