Old Kingdom Tombs Discovered at Abydos
An ancient tomb complex has just been discovered in the Umm el-Ga’ab area near the necropolis of Abydos in what appears to be a royal burial dating back to the Old Kingdom.
Details of the discovery are scant at the moment but MENA news agency reported that the team “has found what could be a royal complex of 13 tombs of different shapes and sizes that could have belonged to high officials from that period or people who contributed to building these tombs…”
It is not yet known how many coffins were found but it is reported that human bones were found inside the coffins.
Other objects found include ivory pieces from an ancient Senet game.
