Friday Photo: Graf Zeppelin Great Pyramid
Here is another stereoscopic photograph taken in 1931 of the Graf Zeppelin’s rendezvous with the eternal desert and the pyramids of Giza. It was taken from the top of the Great pyramid and shows the zeppelin above the pyramid of Khafre.
You can put your special stereoscope back in your pocket, you wont be needing that. The image has been modified to create a ‘wiggle-view’ version by placing the two photographs on top of each other and alternating between the two views.

This one is really nice! The Zeppelin over the pyramid.. wow.
1931 and those were real people who would be so amazed to see where their photo is now – the one guy has his hand up to shield from the sun.
The background is bare and sandy in 1931. Is it still like that? Or are there tourist buildings and gift shops there now?
Hi Sue,
That scene hasn’t changed much as the background is looking south-west out into the desert. In this shot the pyramid of Menkaure is obscured by Khafre’s pyramid.
Vincent,
I can’t thank you enough for all the articles, pictures, even videos of the wonderful sights and sounds of Egypt.
