Exact Date of Great Pyramid Determined
It was announced today that researchers from Egypt have determined the exact date that Khufu’s pyramid was constructed.
The date?
23 August, 2470 BC.
The Governor of Giza has declared that from now on this day is to be known as “National Giza Day”.
Nureddin said the team had proved the date using “historical facts and astronomical calculations.”
The claim was immediately dismissed by the country’s leading Egyptologist, Dr. Zahi Hawass, along with Kamal Wahid, general director of the Giza necropolis, who said the year can only be approximated.
They did not comment on why the “exact” date found by the research team for the start of construction appeared to be almost a century later than the approximate date for the pyramid’s completion accepted by most Egyptologists – 2560 BC.
However, Giza Governor Sayyed Abdel Aziz, who organized the research project, stood by the team’s findings. He said the work was carried out “under conditions of strict secrecy, to ensure the exactness of the research.”
He said Khufu’s pyramid will now become a symbol for the province, and will feature on its emblem.

Yesterday Rossella Lorenzi from the Discovery Channel’s Archaeorama website wrote that the study is being questioned by an archaeological committee consisting of archaeologists from the Supreme Council of Antiquities and Egyptian universities.
“Determining the exact day of building the Great Pyramid is a national and very important scientific issue which must be accurately studied and discussed in order to reach the exact day,” Dr. Hawass, chief of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, said in a statement.
“The committee will discuss the reasoning behind this claim, thus setting the date of the National Holiday, ” Dr. Hawass said.
