Egypt Unwrapped: Weathering the Sphinx
National Geographic’s Egypt Unwrapped series addresses the age of the Sphinx and again, I thought I’d share a few snippets with you.
Geologist Colin Reader looks at the Sphinx at Giza and discusses the weathering issue. Like Schwaller de Lubicz, John Anthony West and fellow geologist Robert Schoch, Reader is of the opinion that evidence of water erosion on the body of the Sphinx and the surrounding pit suggests the monument is older than traditionally accepted.
Does the disproportionate size of the head indicate that the Sphinx was originally carved to represent the head of a lion rather than that of a king?
Dr. Zahi Hawass presents the latest theories and evidence in the mystery of the Sphinx.
