Ancient Egypt News for Friday 04-12-09
Having studied a bit of Programming language and also dabble in the ancient Egyptian language I enjoyed the story about the project to get the words “Hello World” printed in Ancient Egyptian on a T-shirt.
Other stories today include another group of students and a mural of the pyramids, a new study shows the horrible dental problems the ancient Egyptians suffered from, a mummified Ibis gets reborn thanks to high tech scanning, the Suez canal celebrates it’s 150th birthday.
The Oriental Institute Splendors of the Nile group continues thier tour of Egypt and they’ve been blogging as they go. The group has just been to the temple of Hathor at Denderah. I noticed that one of the photos posted was of the rear side of the temple Sanctuary and has the scene of Cleopatra and Caesarean that we’ve been following Leena paint. The same scene is mirrored on both areas. They’ve weathered quite differently over the years. Here are links to both so that you can compare them for yourself: Leena’s painting & the OI photo.
