Such flasks were traditionally offered on New Year’s Day, filled with water from a sacred pool. This spectacular faience masterpiece exemplifies the refinement of Dynasty 18 craftsmanship. It is lentil-shaped, with a short spout and delicate handles. A double geometrical frieze wraps around the spout. Beneath the spout, a large collar with three rows of beads, the last row shaped as drops, decorates each side with understated elegance. Running down the edges are exquisitely calligraphed hieroglyphic inscriptions delivering the following messages:

“It is Re who opens this beautiful New Year’s Day to thee”
(ra-wpt-nefer-rnpt-k).

“It is Ptah who opens this beautiful New Year’s Day to thee”

Some readers might know of Andrew Bayuk from Guardians Discussion board from the mid 90′s. Back then there weren’t a lot of discussion groups online and before enthusiasts of ancient Egypt splintered into many different groups, Guardians was the one place to meet with others and discuss all aspects of Egyptology.

Andrew still runs Guardians and is also responsible for running Zahi Hawass’s official website: ‘The Plateau’.

What is not so well known about Andrew is that he is also a budding musician and has released two CDs of his own original songs. Andrew’s second CD, ‘The Dreamer or the Dream’ has just been released.

“I’ve found a way to combine my two great passions,” he said.

Bayuk’s interest in Egypt has influenced his music since he visited more than 10 years ago. He came home infused with inspiration.

“I see what a civilization can accomplish and it makes me realize humans always have great potential,” said Bayuk, whose return trips led to a gig overseeing the official Web site for Dr. Zahi Hawass, secretary general of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Bayuk took two years to create the disc that he intends to launch this weekend. He weaves references to monuments and mythology into tunes on Dreamer and a previous disc released in 2006, Mixed Messages. His next project is a CD centered around ancient Egyptian themes, due to drop in late 2009.

Bayuk’s testing a few of the finished songs for the upcoming album at live gigs, including the all-ages official Dreamer release show. Join him 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Coffee District, 325 NE Second Ave., Delray Beach; 561-455-0541 or mycoffeedistrict.com. His daughter, fellow singer-songwriter Winter Bay, will be the opening act.

Like Schwaller de Lubicz, John Anthony West and fellow geologist Robert Schoch, Reader is of the opinion that evidence of water erosion on the body of the Sphinx suggests the monument is older than traditionally accepted.

In addition to questioning it’s age, Reader agrees with others that the disproportionate size of the head might indicate that the naturally occurring outcrop of rock may have originally been carved to represent the head of a lion rather than that of a king.
