Ancient Egyptian Games: Online
For the final post in the series on Ancient Egyptian Games I’ve collected a bunch of games that can be played online and put them all together here on one page.
You can also purchase games for your computer from the Ancient Egyptian Games Shop.
Senet:
You can read all about the ancient Egyptian game of Senet or you can just jump straight in and play a game of Senet by clicking on the game board below:
An alternative game of Senet can be played at Paleoglot.
Hounds & Jackals:
Like Senet, Hounds & Jackals was another popular game in ancient Egypt.
Build a Pyramid
The BBC has a fun and educational game for children to learn about the Ancient Egyptian Pyramids and how they were built. It’s really quite authentic. The picture below, for example, shows the stage where you select the angle for your pyramid and the accompanying hieroglyphic writing is from plate 16 of the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus.
Build another Pyramid
This game is similar to the game Pharaoh but is a bit more simple.
Explore the Tomb of Perneb
Explore the Tomb of Perneb at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Enigma
The game consists of four challenges found at locations on the map. After successfully completing each challenge you will be rewarded with a part of a hieroglyphics chart, which will be fully completed once you have met the four challenges. If you can answer all questions you will receive a screensaver as a prize!
Egyptian Pyramids Jigsaw puzzle
A fun Jigsaw puzzle with an Egyptian photograph. Just choose the yellow “Play as Guest” button.
The Challenge – ‘Lost and Found’
When Jane opened her eyes, the room was dark. She realised that she must have been asleep for hours. She tried to find her way out of the museum but all of the doors were locked. She realised that she was locked in the museum- all alone in the dark…
To get Jane out of the museum you must ask the gods and goddesses for help. They may ask you to bring them something before they give you any advice. Wake up Hathor first and remember Jane is counting on you…
Egyptian Tomb Adventure
Looking for a new challenge? Not afraid of snakes and scorpions? Explore an anceint Egyptian tomb:
The Challenge – ‘The Underworld’
The ancient Egyptians believed that before a person could get to the afterlife, that they had to pass through the underworld. The underworld was a place that was full of terrifying monsters and dangerous animals. A person would need magic to successfully overcome these threats.
The ancient Egyptians chose spells to take with them on their journey. The spells were chosen from a group of spells known as the Book of the Dead. The spells were then written on a papyrus scroll which was buried with them in their tomb
The Nile File
Join Nakht-Amun as he shows you the world of Ancient Egypt. He’ll tell you all about hieroglyphs, pharaohs, temples, pyramids and more. At the end you will be given a quiz about what you’ve learned.
Escape from the Mummy’s Tomb
Discover and collect the artifacts as you move through the tomb but watch out for the Mummy!
Tomb of the Unknown Mummy
The Mummy Maker
This is where things start to get a bit messy. Not for the squeamish, in this game you get to scoop the brains out of Seneb’s nose as one of the stages of preparing the body for mummification. Its OK though, we made sure that Seneb was dead first.
Designing a Mummy isn’t as easy as, say, designing T-Shirts.
The Birmingham Museum of Arts for Kids has an educational walk-through. Guess the questions correctly and you get to see inside the mummy’s sarcophagus:
Museum of Civilization
Mummification: Click on any of four mummification stages to play a fun game in which you will learn about the steps involved in making a mummy. Canopic Jars: Learn which ancient Egyptian god protected which organ in the Canopic Jars game. Weighing of the Heart: In the last of the three games you get to weigh your heart to see if you are worthy to enter the afterlife. The goal is to make your way to the sarcophagus chamber by winning all three games.
Pharaoh’s Secret
Bricks of Egypt
Bricks of Egypt takes you on a fantastic journey through an Egyptian world of traps, lasers, fire-balls, gems and hieroglyphs. Classic brick-breaking action and three difficulty settings makes Bricks of Egypt fun for all ages:
Pharoah’s Tomb
Pharoah’s Treasure
Hangaroo
Play Hangaroo, a variation on Hangman. You can also play Hangaroo with a Tutankamon theme.
